Synopsis

World War II The original World War II series from Time-Life was hailed by critics, historians and readers alike as the most comprehensive and detailed series ever on the Second World War, selling over 12 million copies world wide. Second-hand copies are still much sought after and because of public demand, we have decided to revise and update the series, releasing it in a new, luxury, collector's edition. Prelude To War Examines the background to the Second World War and reveals how, in only 21 years, the hope that had followed the end of World War One - the 'war to end all wars' - turned to despair. It looks at the years of turmoil that followed the First World War and the succession of events that led inevitably to renewed conflict. In Europe, Russia was torn apart by revolution and Germany choked on the humiliation of defeat, determined to avenge the injustices of the Treaty of Versailles. In China another revolution was about to take place which would be ruthlessly exploited by the Japanese as they strove to impose control over the entire Pacific.

Packed with photographs from around the globe, Prelude to War sets the stage for the devastation to come, providing the historical and political context vital for understanding the complexities of this turbulent era.
