When we were in training, all three authors were struck that even very good candidates can fail the MRCPsych exams because of poor examination technique. This book aims to teach both Part I and II MRCPsych candidates how to present what they know in an organised and effective manner. It deliberately avoids presenting readers with facts or practice examples of questions. Candidates need to learn such key information using other books, clinical learning etc. What the book aims to do is to help you to present what you know as effectively as you can – whether at interview, in patient cases and in writing (essays and MCQs). It will also help you consider how best to structure your revision for the exams so that you can maximise your chances of success.

We hope that it will be helpful, and value your feedback on the book. The content of this revised and updated edition addresses all aspects of the exams as of the publication date (2000). New changes to the College exams are planned, and efforts have been made to include information that will be easily generalisable to the suggested changes to the examinations in Parts I and II.
