As an annual, international orientated publication, this book is designed to provide succinct authoritative reviews of topics which are either controversial or undergoing significant development. Whilst the bias of the book is towards the clinical aspects, fundamental research which indicates potential change in clinical practice of the future. Where there ius controversy, the current options for managing a specific clinical problem are discussed. The editors, four intensive care clinicians from Europe, Australasia and North America, collectively agree a list of topics for each publication whilst the commissing and editing of each book is assumed by a different member of this group on a four year rotation. Where appropriate a further leading intensive care clinician to comment briefly on any points of controversy and this will be published as an addendum to the contribution.
