Synopsis
Jane Ratcliffe is one of Britain's leading naturalists. This is the story of her work, from an extraordinary childhood encounter with a swallow to her most recent battle against the winter of 1979. In the wild, injured or orphaned animals-and birds are doomed to die; Mrs Ratcliffe's special achievement over the years has been to rescue them without taming them. In her care they are restored. to health, trained to catch their prey and taught to fend for themselves in their natural environment. With selfless dedication Mrs Ratcliffe and her husband have reared and nursed back to health badgers, tawny owls, blackbirds, hedgehogs, foxes, barn owls, kestrels and buzzards.
