This is the first in a short series of reports arising from the NFER project 'Effective Behaviour Management in Schools'. It concentrates on a review of local education authority (LEA) behaviour support services and relays findings from a national survey which covers a range of issues. These include the location of behaviour services within LEAs, staffing, the support offered to schools, the amount of inter-agency activity, funding, evaluation and monitoring, plus the general approaches and philosophy underpinning the service. The wealth of information presented in this report provides valuable insights into the various funding arrangements, structures and monitoring procedures used in delivering behaviour support services. It will also be relevant to anyone wishing to investigate the creation or extension of genuine multi-agency approaches, alternative modes of curriculum provision, and effective preventative work with younger pupils
