Synopsis

Original Frankart Art Deco statuary is highly sought after today by collectors worldwide. Well over 500 different Frankart product model numbers were commercially produced during its lifespan from 1921 to 1961. Products included lamps, ashtrays, ashstands, vases, bookends, lighters, aquariums, wall plaques and more. This book is the culmination of 20 years of Frankart collecting and personal research including reviews of historical trade catalogs, government records, newspapers, geneology websites and interviews/correspondence with relatives of the principal partners of the Frankart company. The book features 275 high resolution pages full of photos, design patents, articles about the industry, original product advertisements and descriptive text that chronologically follow the inception, design, company formation and success of Frankart products from 1921 until the company went out of business in 1961. Learn the facts about the original creator, Arthur Von Frankenberg (not his real name!); Henry Underberg, the businessman and Frankart, Inc co-founder; George Murad, the production manager and eventual corporation owner--along with interesting information on Von Frankenberg's muse and figure model Leone Osborne, whom most of his designs were based on. Supplemented mostly from my personal Frankart collection, there are well over 220 original color photos and black & white scans of the Frankart model numbers with the focus on those that were produced up through 1930 just before Von Frankenberg lost his stake in the company as the result of a lawsuit with his partners. The book goes on to describe Von Frankenberg's formation of a new company (Quoizel) while his ex-partners, Underberg and Murad, continue to run Frankart, Inc. Eventually, the companies and the men & women who contributed to their success fade into history, leaving only a legacy in metal statuary. It is my sincere hope that this book will now finally provide the context for that continuing legacy.
