In a world that values sameness above most human characteristics, creativity is a primary casualty. This book is designed to counter that trend. It is full of practical ideas and exercises in visual art, poetry, and prose that can be used to help you realize and reclaim the artistic and creative parts of yourself, to help you find passion in your life, and to put that passion to work in whatever moves you.

Jim Woessner is the author of two volumes of poetry: Little Boxes and Story Boxes. He is a former corporate executive and recovering nuclear engineer who found his way to an MFA in creative writing and careers in art and teaching. He still maintains a “foot” in the so-called “real” business world with his Threshold Workshops where he teaches businesses, nonprofits, students, and groups of adults how to transform their relationships to creativity. Basically, he puts people together to throw paint, write poems, do abstract and whole-brain thinking, and learn new ways of being authentic and solving problems. You can find out more at his website www.thresholdworkshops.com. In addition, Jim teaches programs for students and adults on the connections between art and science. He has an MFA from Bennington College, and he facilitates a professional salon called the Bridgeway Artists. Jim’s paintings and sculptures have appeared in numerous Bay Area shows and galleries. He is the founder of Artists of Issaquah, a community of waterfront artists whose mission is to help people discover themselves as artists. He lives and works on a houseboat with his partner on the Sausalito waterfront near San Francisco, California.
