Nine-year-old Ricky; his sister, Sarah; and little brother, David, aren't sure they'll enjoy a two-week stay at their grandparents' cabin. The cabin has no Internet access, no video games, and not even a television. Fourteen electronic-free days sounds awful!
While helping clean out the barn, however, the three children find an old music box their mother loved when she was a little girl. Badly damaged and no longer working, the music box looks like junk, but Ricky has an idea. He wants to restore the box as a special present for his mother.
At first, Sarah and David don't want to help. Teenage Sarah isn't willing to admit her younger brother could ever have a good idea, and six-year-old David's arm is in a cast. Ricky's enthusiasm is contagious though, and with the help of their grandfather, all three work together to repair and restore their mother's prized possession.
A sweet, poignant story about working together, Ricky and the Broken Box follows the music box's step-by-step restoration, just as authors Rick and Kelly Dale do every week on their television show American Restoration.
