The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, mostly known as the Knights Templar. Were officially endorsed by the Catholic Church in the early 12th century. Their distinctive white mantles and red cross are recognizable. They were among the wealthiest and most powerful of the military orders of the middle ages. Standing out during the crusades they lost power shortly after the holy land was lost. Disbanded by Pope Clement V in 1312, the legend and speculation of this group continues to this day.
