The comprehensive, outlined text is a useful resource for the outside reading required to fill gaps in a clerk's clinical knowledge. The book emphasizes underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms of disease. New to this edition are: a neurology chapter added in response to market feedback which.includes a section on the approach to the patient with a neurologic complaint; an oncology chapter completely rewritten to incorporate all organ cancers previously scattered throughout the book, which also includes general principles of tumour growth, cancer staging and treatment; an allergy and immunology chapter extensively rewritten to emphasize pathophysiology, to update immunology and to reflect the most important and common problems; the rheumatology chapter has been reduced in level of detail but expanded in the areas of vasculitis, infectious arthritis and newly discovered immunologic and genetic factors of rheumatic disease. Six clinical problem-solving exercises have been added at the back of the book, which provide an interactive way to test a student's developing clinical reasoning skills.
