A deeply admired, readable, and frankly profound work of ecophilosophy, often cited by ecocritics and environmental writers alike. Abrams springs from Merleau-Ponty and other phenomenologists to compellingly explore how the evolution of alphabetic language itself aided in our damaging disconnect from the natural world.
