Synopsis
The ten essays in this volume are devoted to various manifestations of Shakespeare’s influence, on individual writers and on the popular consciousness, from the early seventeenth century to the present. A few facets of that influence are highlighted, without any attempt at a systematic or chronological survey. The contributors are Morton Bloomfield, Douglas Bush, Paul Cantor, Paul D’Andrea, Alfred Harbage, David Hirsch, Cyrus Hoy, Murray Krieger, Arthur Sherbo, and Hallett Smith.
