The Ranger's (Author's) Intent:
The foundation of principles upon which being a Ranger is built, its very roots, can be readily comprehended from the history of the United States Army Ranger. It is that history, that lineage, that tradition constructed by those generations past and present, whose dedication, honor, courage, perseverance, blood, and ultimate personal sacrifice to which we owe so much.
At 600+ pages, To Fight is the most definitive work on the three and a half centuries of Ranger intrepidity. While researching for another book on Ranger training, The Coveted Black and Gold, I was astonished to find that no comprehensive work had yet been written about this oldest and most historied of American military units. Dan Bolger, in his endorsement of To Fight, said it best: "The history of American Rangers is the history of America. When Americans go to war, Rangers lead the way."
On behalf of ALL Rangers, past and present--especially those who participated and gave their "full measure of devotion" in support of Task Force Ranger in Somalia, I am proud and honored to have authored their story.
About the Author
Lt. Gen. Harold G. Moore (USA Ret.) graduated from West Point, commanded two infantry companies in the Korean War, and was a battalion and brigade commander in Vietnam. After thirty-two years of service, he retired from the Army in 1977.
