Unlike the London Exchange or continental Bourses, the New York Stock Exchange and the Consolidated Stock Exchange each has its own independent ticker service, and every transaction is recorded on the tape of their tickers almost instantly, every trade being reported to the operator as soon as made, and the number of shares of each stock bought or sold at given prices. In the London market no quantities or numbers of shares are given, merely the bid and asked prices being quoted.
