Let us, therefore, in these remarks, endeavour to divest ourselves of all prejudice, and, anxious only for the welfare of the community, brieﬂy consider the question; whether, or not, it would be advisable that the bank of England, and country banks, should be permitted to issue one pound notes. The consideration of the subject may be divided as follows - Ou the issue of one pound notes by the bank of England - ou the issue of such notes by country banks; - On the results Of such a measure, if Britain were involved in a war -on the consequences, if Great Britain continued in a state of peace.
