The method of Marriott and Wolf 6, which consists in bringing out the color of the aqueous solution by the addition of about one and a half volumes of acetone, does not appear to afford a sufficient guar antee against bleaching, or against the effects of mass action or of inhibiting substances, and could be applied only to limited amounts of material, and to such substances as are sufficiently soluble in the aqueous acetone.
