Daher suche ich in meiner Abhandlung zu zeigen, dass die Schrift, die Livius als die einzige treue Bewahrerin der Erinnerung an alles Geschehene bezeichnet, in Rom weit fruher bekannt war, als gewöhnlich angenommen wird, dass sie dort schon im Gebrauch war, als die ewige Stadt gegründet wurde, dass das lateinische Alphabet schon vor der Erbauung Roms in Latium zusammengestellt war und dass heute noch der Hymnus der arvalischen Brüder und die Fragmente der Ge sänge der Salier Zeugniss ablegen zu Gunsten dieser uralten Schrift.
