Ce ne sera pas ma faute si, durant le cours de ce récit, j'ai plus souvent l'occasion de relever les travers de son caractère et les singularités de son humeur, que de faire ressortir le côté brillant de ses qualités et la profondeur de son génie; ce sera la faute de mon sujet, et c'est à tort qu'on induirait de là.
