The project of taxing America either internally or externally for the express purpose of raising a reve nue to be paid into the exchequer of Great Britain, was a novelty in politics and legislation in the highest degree bold, alarming, and dangerous; and the stamp act, of which the fatal effects were so clearly and accurately pre dicted to Mr. Grenville, produced, immediately on the attempt being made to carry it into execution, the most dreadful disturbances.
