Keeping the fire bars clean, and regulating the dampers for a maximum quantity of air just after firing contributes greatly to high efficiency. Beyond these points. There is little opportunity for exercising skill in stoking, and yet these tests show clearly how very important the simple operations involved in firing a boiler become. The very simplicity is one cause for neglect.
