Synopsis

The inter-relationship of people and the environment is central to the study of Geography. This book combines a systematic analysis of the global physical environment focusing on hazards, with detailed coverage of human impact on the environment. A wide range of sample studies from around the world give depth to the systematic coverage. The book is arrnanged in self-contained double-page spreads, including full colour illustrations. A detailed cross-referencing system enable readers to follow thematic strands throughout the book. It is broadly divided into the following sections: Part 1 looks at processes which shape the environment, and at hostile environments and human response. It focuses on the management of natural processes and on living with the natural environment. Part 2 looks at the human impact on the environment, and at environmental management. Part 3 provides extended sample studies and simulation activities which bring together themes and processes from parts 1 and 2.
