Synopsis

This volume contains the papers presented in Section F of the British Association at its Durham meeting in September 1970, which had the problem of conflicts in economic policy objectives as its general theme. In the Presidential address Professor Kaldor discusses policies of economic management as developed since the second world war. He argues that concentration on internal demand management as the main economic regulator has led, in the case of Britain, to "consumption-led" growth which caused a slower rate of growth of the productive potential of the economy than could have been attained with "export-led" growth.
