A true story with over 100 images about an incredibly successful, diminutive ocean racing yacht, her adventures, her trials and tribulations. She is one of the greatest yachts in modern racing history! For all the crew who sailed on Imp agree that their adventures served as crucibles in passages to manhood, self-discovery and self-confidence. Both were magical boats that afforded lifetime peak experiences. The Legend of Imp captures how her crew met, came together as a team, her roots and links into yacht racing history and San Francisco Bay racing history during one of the most exciting eras to be involved in offshore racing. She spent part of her career on the South Coast of the UK, coming here in 1977 to compete in the Admiral's Cup series. She won the 1977 Fastnet Race, and returned to take part in the notorious 1979 Fastnet Race, when a severe storm resulted in the deaths of 15 competitors and the total loss of several yachts. The 40-foot boat designed by Kiwi Ron Holland for David Allen of Belvedere, California took the yacht-racing world by storm from her launch in January 1977. She has had a magical life through seven different owners over a 33-year life span and is still winning races today. She spawned a large family of clones and pseudo clones, all seeking a piece of her magic. None could recapture it.
