Synopsis
The classic Hindu love manual, the Kama Sutra, was written 2000 years ago by Vatsyayana, an elderly sage, in the sacred city of Benares on the Ganges. First translated and published in the West in 1883, the work was not widely available until the 1960s, when it became popularly known. Advocating a new freedom in sexual relations, the ideals of Kama Sutra could not be more different from that of traditional western religions, yet it remains as relevant today as when it was first written. Here, carefully selected excertps taken from the original translation are accompanied by informative text designed to explore and illuminate the secrets of this ancient text.
