About the Author

Hale Humphrey-Jones, Ph.D., LPCMH, NCGC, has a full-time private practice, providing counseling for individuals and couples. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health in the State of DE. She also works with individuals and couples who are coping with gambling issues in the State of Delaware. Dr. Humphrey-Jones teaches psychology and communication at two community colleges in DE. She also provides training for the DE Council on Gambling Problems, and has presented to the National Conference on Problem Gambling and to the National Forensic Counselor?s Association. Dr. Humphrey is a nationally certified gambling counselor, and has written several books: This Must Be Hell: a look at pathological gambling, 1998, The Bad Girls? Club, 2001, Con Man, 2004, and One More Time: The gambler?s mantra, 2005, which was co-authored with Mel Slawik.Melvin A. Slawik, MSW, ACSW, NCGC, MAC, is currently the Chief of Support Services for the Office of the Public Defender in the State of Delaware. He was previously Chief of Intake Services and a psycho-forensic evaluator. Mr. Slawik is a nationally certified gambling counselor and provides training and case management services for the DE Council on Gambling Problems, Inc. He has presented papers to the National Gambling Council and to the National Forensic Counselor?s Association.Mr. Slawik is President of the Addictions Coalition of Delaware, Inc. and on the Board of Governors of the National Association of Forensic Counselors, and a Diplomat of the Board of American College of Certified Forensic Counselors. He received the Recognition award from the Delaware Council on Problem Gambling, Inc. in 2003, and The Distinguished Member and Societal Justice Award from the National Association of Forensic Counselors in 2004. Mel co-authored his first book: One more time: The gamblers? mantra in 2005.
