Synopsis

The Ego and the "Apex" Paradox presents a new genre of psychology: Integral Psychology. In this genre, all schools and systems of psychology are unified within a single, all-inclusive framework. Freud, Jung, Maslow, and Wilber all find their rightful place as members in a new "democracy of mind". It is the intent of this work to usher in a new era within professional psychology, where all schools and systems can benefit from a common language and theoretical framework. This breakthrough is made possible by a conception of the psyche that includes all aspects of structure, development, and clinical practice within a single, comprehensive theory: The "Apex" Paradox.

Daniels' synthesis is impressive, especially his sections on awareness and consciousness, paradox and the dialectic, identity and the "self system". Daniels' comparison of the positions taken by Grof, Washburn, and Wilber is one of his book's most valuable contributions to transpersonal discourse.

--Stanley Krippner (The Mythic Path, Dreamscaping)

Burton Daniels suggests an "'Apex' Paradox" to complement Ken Wilber's "Spectrum Theory of Consciousness", and specific applications to psychology and therapeutic practice. Promises to be an invaluable site of practical resources.
