Synopsis
When the DEA raids Jake Grummonds dairy in the wee hours of an August morning, they find no drugs but they devastate the dairy and those who depend on it and turn Jake's wife into a basket case. With little help from elected representatives and less from the legal system, Jake takes the hunt for justice, for who fingered him and why, into his own hands.Sapinero County Sheriff C. W. Blakenship keeps a wary eye on Jake as he, too, tries to unravel the reason for the ill-fated raid. They keep meeting, locked in a dance neither acknowledges, as their separate hunts take them through local animosities, drug rings, an obsessed DEA agent, and a strange collective of retired Army men, culminating in an explosive confrontation neither could have foreseen.
