Kathleen OHalloran, a young, impetuous girl who has learned to pilot an aircraft, volunteers to join a group of Americans recruited by Jacqueline Cochran to fly ferry duty for the British Air Transport Auxiliary. She gets romantically involved with an American Air Force Officer and becomes an unwed mother. An old acquaintance, Paul Benson, from her youth, who had developed a crush on her and is now also with the Eighth Air Force in Britain, reestablished contact with her, becomes aware of her predicament and determines to stand by her. Then they are caught in a buzz bomb attack in which she is severely injured, eventually being rendered blind. But Paul refuses to abandon her.

George Terrell, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a 1951 graduate of Northeastern University with a B.S. degree in Mathematics and Physics, has spent his working lifetime in various technological and scientific undertakings. At home in Foxboro, Massachusetts for the past forty-five years, he has been an active participant in both church and community affairs. After ten years spent in preparation, he has adopted the writing of fiction as a post retirement career.
