Synopsis
A collection of short stories, book excerpts, story poems, non-fiction and anecdotal writing, aimed at providing the primary teacher with a unique resource of evocative and provocative read-aloud material for five to eleven year olds. The material is organized by themes to facilitate finding the most appropriate piece for a topic. Its use will support, in particular, English Attainment Targets 1, 2 and 3, providing children with opportunities to listen to and respond to a range of genres and styles. As well as work by popular well-known authors, the book will include a substantial proportion of specially commissioned pieces and new writers. The collection reflects a multicultural and non-sexist approach.
