Before there were chat rooms, there was the Party Line.
When I wrote this book there were radio ads for teen talk lines and all I could think was how scary the opportunities for abuse! What if you talked with someone who seemed really nice and then you met him and he was a monster? Naturally, as my imagination ran wild, I began writing a book. This is the first book I sold, and now that there are chat rooms on the Internet, the idea has a fresh relevance today. Before there were chat rooms, there was the Party Line! Mark dials it a lot. As is true for a lot of people, it's easier to talk with girls when you don't have to see them face to face, and Mark wants to talk with girls. As he dials in, he keeps hearing a disturbing voice, a too-smooth guy who sounds familiar. Mark can't figure out where he's heard that voice before, which becomes a major problem when the girls who chat with creepy-voice start disappearing. The police don't believe there's a chat-line connection, so it's up to Mark to find the guy before he finds his next victim. I hope you're as baffled and determined as Mark is as you follow him on the rescue trail.
