Home and Consumer is one of a series of four books written especially for GCSE home economics courses. The other three are Food for Health, Textiles for People, Families and Child Development. The books may be used together, to give a coordinated approach to home economics, or separately.
The series provides plenty of opportunity for decision-making and problem solving, and aims to introduce the skills of management and organisation in a thought-provoking way.
Home and Consumer is divided into topics to ensure wide coverage of the whole study area. It deals with the management of resources within the family, the home, and the community, providing plenty to do and to think about in each topic. Cross-references at the ends of topics emphasise the relevance of the home to other aspects of home economics.
