Synopsis

This textbook, written both for civil engineering students and land surveyors in the field, describes and illustrates four different methods of adjustment: equal shifts, Bowditch, method of conditions and variation of co-ordinates, which cover the preponderance of modern sub-geodetic practice. The author also describes four methods of observing horizontal angles which cover all of the usual double-face practice. All methods can be used equally on loop and connecting traverses. The book stresses EDM calibration and the technique of line pairs or length ratios, topics which the author believes deserve greater recognition. He also examines the near infra-red and longer range types of instrumentation associated calibration and the line pairs technique.
