It covers the physical mechanism of conduction in semiconductors, using models which are made quantitative, and describes the three most significant devices in integrated circuits - the p-n junction, the bipolar transistor and the MOSFET. Devices such as varactor diodes, LED's and photodiodes are mentioned but not covered in detail. The valence bond semiconductor is dealt with followed by the energy band model and the construction of circuit models of transistors is also covered. It is designed for first year degree students in electrical and electronic engineering and should also be useful to HND students in the same subject areas.
