ABOUT THIS VOLUME: Several important results in ring theory, one of the central topics of abstract algebra, have been obtained only by examining the additive structure of rings. In this volume, which continues the treatment of volume 83 of the Research Notes in Mathematics series, Dr Feigelstock emphasises the use of additive groups of rings in obtaining results in various areas of ring theory, for example, radical theory of rings and embedding theorems for rings. Many recent developments are introduced here for the first time in book form. Considerable effort is made to make the book self-contained and accessible to the non-expert.
