(This overview of the practical implementation of integrated pest management systems is designed to assist both extension services and growers as well as the agrochemical industry. Based on the author's work in Central Africa and visits to over 40 countries, it discusses the correct use of insecticides as regards product, timing and application. Additionally, the author aims to integrate alternative forms of pest control with the judicious use of insecticides, due to the growing resistance of many pests to chemicals currently in use.
