The second of two volumes based on a series of lectures given at Indiana University as a part of the Special Year in Operator Theory 1985-86 is directed toward the study of algebras of bounded linear operators on Hilbert space, while the first is primarily concerned with the study of single linear operators. Each of the lecture series during the year aimed to develop a topic of current interest in operator theory, starting from a point accessible to advanced graduate students in the area and proceeding rapidly to current and future researchers.
