Synopsis
Over 100 of the best-loved columns by Jay Reed, legendary outdoor writer of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Included are his reflections as a war correspondent in Vietnam, which twice made him a finalist in the voting for the Pulitzer Prize. Reed's tenure at Wisconsin's largest newspaper spanned four decades. During that time, he set aside the columns he felt were his very best, in the hope they'd be made into a book someday. Cancer took his life in 2002, but Reed's wife, Christine, has seen to the publication of this book, celebrating the life of this beloved storyteller and Thor, his yellow Labrador retriever. Proceeds from sale of this book benefit the Jay Reed Conservation Scholar Fund at the University of Wisconsin--Stevens Point, established by Christine Reed in 2003.
