About the Author
Jack Vance was born in 1916 and educated at the University of California in mining engineering, physics and journalism. During the Second World War he served in the Merchant Navy and was torpedoed twice. He started contributing stories to the pulp magazines in the late 1940s and published his first book, The Dying Earth, in 1950. Among his many books are To Live Forever, The Dragon Masters, for which he won his first Hugo, The Blue World, Emphyrio, The Anome and the Lyonesse sequence.

Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. This is a first printing of the Gollancz edition which states "An abridged version of this novel was published in 1957 by Avalon and subsequently reprinted. This is the first unabridged version in book form." Age tanning to pages. Minor tape residue on first page. Insides of covers are a little grubby with some tanning. Reading crease on rear cover adjacent to the spine. The book has been very tightly bound which has resulted in some rippling to the pages adjacent to the spine.
