Synopsis

Inspired by a television documentary, Peter Terson's play looks at the world of the North-East England strippers, centring on Wendy and Bernard, a young couple whose lives are up-ended when Wendy turns, reluctantly, to stripping to support the family after Bernard is made redundant. Although Bernard quite happily watches the 'exotic dancers' over a couple of pints at the club, when it comes to his wife it's a different matter.|6 women, 4 men

Review

"The northeast of England has been stripped of its assets - the docks, the mines, the shipyards are gone - and all that's left for the men is to go out for a pint, at the end of a day on social security, to watch their women strip themselves. Yet, from this bleak and obvious metaphor, Terson has created a play full of humour, concern and affection." (Matthew Hoffman, The Listener} -- Matthew Hoffman, The Listener

"[But] the great strength of 'Strippers' is that, like Trevor Griffiths' 'Comedians', it both celebrates and denigrates an institutionalised British way of laughing at, or worrying about, sex." (Martin Hoyle, The Financial Times} -- Matthew Hoffman, The Listener
