9780571357024: March of the Lemmings: Brexit in Print and Performance 2016–2019

Synopsis

As a Metropolitan Elitist Snowflake, Stewart Lee was disappointed by the Brexit referendum result of 2016. But he knew how to weaponise his inconvenience.

He would treat all his subsequent writing, until we left the EU, as interrelated episodes of a complete work. The cast of characters include Lemming-obsessed Michael Gove, violent tanning-salon entrepreneur Tommy Robinson and Boris Piccaninny Watermelon Bumboys Letterbox Cake Disaster Weightloss Haircut Bullshit Johnson. A dramatic chorus is made up of online commenters and Kremlin bots. And Lee himself would play the defeated, unreliable narrator-hero, whose resolve and tolerance would gradually unravel as the horror show dragged on. Until the 29 March, 2019, when it would all definitely be over.

Drawing on three years of newspaper columns, a complete transcript of the Content Provider stand-up show, and Lee's caustic footnote commentary, March of the Lemmings is the scathing, riotous record the Brexit era deserves.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. VG. Ex-library, with spine label and associated signs and trappings, including an outsized "DISCARD" ink stamp in red to the publication page -- why settle for one scarlet letter when you can have seven? Further salient notes: the library covered the wrappers and spine of this volume with clear archival tape that wraps over the edges of the wraps fore and aft and considerably stiffen and protect the externals; also, the due date card in the pocket shows that no one ever borrowed it. Altogether then, this copy is in very good condition indeed, with no other marks or evidence of wear and tear aside from some very minor wrinkling to the half-title fore-edge. Infuriated by the Brexit vote, this is a collection of righteously ticked-off rants savaging the people and times that are responsible for the UK's hara-kiri according to Lee, described by The Times as "the world's greatest living stand-up comedian". Not new, but we're not calling it new; we're calling it a solid reading copy that you can safely spill warm beer on, after tears have been added to it of course. Seller Inventory # 6337
