At the tender age of fifteen, aspiring rock journalist William Miller gets the kind of break most music hacks only dream of: a commission from Rolling Stone magazine. Putting off his high-school graduation, William hits the road with Stillwater, the hot new band he's been asked to write a profile on. In between his attempts to get an interview with the band's lead guitarist Russell Hammond, William falls for fellow teenager Penny Lane, one of the band's most devoted followers. Based on writer-director Cameron Crowe's experiences as a journalist on tour with the Allman Brothers, Almost Famous is an affectionate tribute to the days before rock went stadium, a charming portrait of teenage first love, and an insightful look at what happens when rock journalists become too friendly with the bands they have to write about.
