Armchair footie fans rejoice, for salvation has arrived in the form of this pocket-sized guide to what is sure to be the biggest sporting event of the year (oh, apart from the Olympics). The European Championships will reach a nail-biting climax this summer in Holland and Belgium, and for those of you not trekking half way across Europe to cheer on our boys will find this all-encompassing guide to the tournament an essential purchase. Stamped with the "Match of the Day" backing, you know you are getting all the latest and most informed statistics, opinions and commentary. And, thankfully, it is accessible to fans of all levels, taking time to explain the way the competition works and how teams go forward. There's also a neat little guide to the stadia hosting the matches, so even if you aren't there, you can picture it all in perfect detail. Then it's down to the usual run through of the teams, picking out key players, strategies and tactics to watch out for. There's even a selection of colour photos inside featuring some of the top personalities (though the haircuts are, by now, probably out of date!).
It's nicely packaged, easy to read and good value and any Euro 2000 fan would do well to line this up alongside the remote control and the pizza on the sofa this summer. --Joanne Wells
