Jack Schaefer was an American writer, born in Ohio in 1907. He had a long career as a journalist and became a novelist after the successful publication of Shane in 1949. He continued to write westerns and received the Western Literature Association's Distinguished Achievement award in 1975. Jack Schaefer died in 1991.
