Synopsis
Born in one of the worst storms the North West Highlands has ever known, orphaned by fire, savaged by beast and man, Rusty, the red deer calf, knew little of security. Then one day he was rescued by Angus the gamekeeper and given to his daughter Jeannie to aid her recovery fom a car crash in which her fiance was killed. This story vividly evokes the harsh but rewarding life of the Highlands, with both natural tragedies and those conreived by man' inadequacies, and with moments of peace and intense satisfaction. As readers of her earlier books know, Joyce Stranger arouses equal interest in both human and animal characters. She is a trained scientist, writing without sentimentality and with strict adherence to fact, with a deep feeling for wild animals and tame, and for those who are involved with them.
