Erich Kahler was internationally known for his distinguished contributions to the philosophy of history and sociology of knowledge. He authored "Man the Measure: A New Approach to History; The Tower and the Abyss: An Inquiry into the Transformation of Man; "and "The Meaning of History. "During his lifetime, Kahler held teaching posts at Cornell University, Princeton University, and Ohio State University. He was also a member of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton, and a fellow of the Leo Baeck Institute - where he lectured and where this volume first took shape.
