Written within a biopsychosocial framework, this text covers the specific stages of adult development and aging. In its unparalled coverage of recent research and theory, the authors draw clear connections between research and application.

"A readable, comprehensive and interesting text (with) broad coverage and some unique areas, such as social cognition, not normally found in other texts." "The pedagogical features are very well done. They stimulate critical thinking, have a high level of interest for students, and put a "face" on the concepts/research." "I would recommend this text it is thorough, accurate, and clear. They style of writing will make this text accessible to undergraduates at most colleges and universities, and it should be noted that the latter is accomplished without sacrificing complex material or concepts. Throughout the text, age-related changes are neither over-stated nor under-stated: permitting a balanced and accurate depiction of the research on aging and its implications for real people." "The Cavanaugh and Blanchard-Fields text includes a chapter on Social Cognition that is interesting as well as thorough; enabling instructors to highlight these timely and exciting research domains in a way that should stimulate thought-provoking discussions in the classroom. In addition the chapter about person-environment interactions would facilitate explaining aspects of aging relevant to this area that can be difficult to convey to undergraduates because of their complexity." "The Cavanaugh and Blanchard-Fields text represents a current and comprehensive book covering adult development and aging. It is student friendly and covers all the important aspects of the adulthood and aging process ." I feel my students complete the course with a much-improved understanding of the normal processes of aging I feel the book's greatest strength is its readability it helps if the material can be understood and is fairly enjoyable. I believe the Cavanaugh and Blanchard-Fields text is effective in doing this. A second strength of the text is that the citations are current the authors have kept pace with these changes and demonstrate to students the dynamic nature of this field." "The students really like the case examples presented in the introduction sections of chapters and throughout the chapters the end of the chapter review and questions are excellent " "The book is written by two well-known and relevant people in aging and development These two have done extensive aging and development research and that is key for this book to continue to be used and admired by professionals."
