Synopsis

A practical text for students studying human services. This book addresses the real world experiences facing those in social work and human services who focus on community/organization, and who want to learn how to actually affect community changes, not simply discuss theory. Homan shows students how to promote more responsive human services, develop stronger, healthier neighbourhoods, and get people involved in change efforts and keep them involved. Professionals who want to turn their ethical beliefs into action should find that the book provides a solid foundation for community change.

Review

"The author has made major and important revisions in the text by adding substantial content on special population groups and content on the use of information technologies in community practice. This content is presented in special chapters/sections as well as integrated more fully in the text in general I am pleased to report that we will adopt the second edition given the useful revisions. There are excellent alternatives but none do as good a job for a foundation course!"
