Synopsis
This student-oriented text presents the "basics" for professors who need to get through the text quickly and who therefore give priority to the essentials of applied statistics; however, the text should not be mistaken as low-level. The text aims to captures the pedagogical insight and classroom lecture tactics of a statistics teacher who has actively and successfully experimented with better ways to teach his course. Peripheral discussions are avoided, "pointing techniques" such as attention-directing arrows that help guide students, much as an instructor would with chalk on a blackboard are used, concept recaps underscore important concepts and terms throughout the book, and new ideas are introduced in a brief outline before being discussed in detail.
