9780534199562: Direct Social Work Practice: Theory and Skills

Synopsis

By delineating discrete, practical skills and providing both skill-development exercises and modeled responses adapted from actual clinical situations, Hepworth and Larsen prepare students effectively for delivering social work services to individuals, couples, families, and other groups. Written from an eclectic perspective, the authors integrate knowledge and skills from diverse practice models within an ecological systems framework, emphasizing those models that are empirically grounded and focusing on the multiple roles involved in both generalist and direct practice.

Review

"This edition is rich in content preparing students for contemporary practice; it meets many of CSWE's curricular standards. The material on culturally competent practice woven throughout the book is extremely valuable to both students and teachers, as in the inclusion of newer practice models and approaches (cognitive, strength, social skills, stress management)). I find this edition to be more tightly organized. Thank you for the opportunity to preview the text's newest edition. I look forward to using it with future classes!"
