This textbook has been written to help teachers and students to pilot their way through the enormous and ever expanding literature on the French Revolution. The author makes a conscious effort to combine social and political interpretations of the origins of the Revolution and offers a synthesis which takes full account of current debates. He also seeks to restore the Revolution to its domestic environment. Notwithstanding the powerful contemporary myth of rupture, the author argues that the dramatic events of 1789 need to be considered alongside the reform achievements of Bourbon absolute monarchy. The result is a new account of the gestation of the Revolution which is both up-to-date and satisfying in its range of vision.

Hardback. Condition: As New. Reform and Revolution in France ? The Politics of Transition 1774?1791 by Peter M. Jones is a clear, scholarly, and incisive study of the critical years leading up to the French Revolution. Covering the reign of Louis XVI through to the collapse of the ancien régime, Jones explores how reformist ideals collided with deep-seated institutional resistance, spiraling into full-blown revolution. With a sharp eye for political nuance, he examines the complex interactions between monarchy, nobility, clergy, and emerging political movements during a time of upheaval and transformation. Published in a world before TikTok and takeaway coffee, this classic academic text remains a staple for students, historians, and anyone curious about why powdered wigs and privilege couldn?t hold back the tide of change. Whether you?re brushing up for a university essay or just like your history with a side of collapse, Reform and Revolution in France is a solid (if slightly dusty) companion. Available now from Crappy Old Books ? where the spine may be cracked, but the insights are still revolutionary. Condition as new. First edition. Seller Inventory # 3954
